This is the best write up I have read on the lawlessness & corruption that John Roberts has inflicted on the country . . . and frankly on the entire planet. “Gaslighting” is a good word for how Roberts is continually defending his disastrous bastardization of the principles that the founders intended. Someday, his grievous error in judgement will be corrected so we can get the country back on track, but the “stench” of this will never be entirely eliminated because of the ongoing consequences! Very well written Lisa, thank you! 🙏 😊
I feel the founders were so taken by the newly acquired right of representation. They could imagine someone trying to be king, hence guardrails for that, but they seemed unable to imagine a Congress that would refuse to tether the president to constitutional behavior while pretending to represent. We have a Congress that has refused to do their job, to tether the presidency to constitutional behavior which means the court has been more important than ever. It is a trick GOP congress has played on the American people pretending to represent when they are not.
You've said it so well. Thank you for using you experience, compassion-for all of us, desire for justice and moral clarity to call out the rank corruption, unconstitutionality and incalculable abuse of power by Trump, his sycophants and the MAGA 6.
It is horrifying. I am deeply saddened and grieved, and I am not looking away.
Great article lisa,..it,s the beginning of the long road back for the democrats,.and the a long road back for the rest of the world that needs america to be free.
Thanks for your clear and cogent essay on a present day Supreme Court conundrum. (Maybe it is much more than a conundrum).I just got your book from our library and looking forward to a good read.
I see that the decision for presidential immunity makes the constitution unconstitutional. It breaks directly with the words and intent of the articles. Can it be challenged for legitimacy? And by whom?
Epstein only required a reputation ready for ruining, it’s how he made his money. They tried to normalize their underground behavior, find other mainstream successful people to associate with. But underground behavior needs to stay underground, it’s child abuse, plain and simple. Their fantasy life overwhelmed them (everyone on the list except sociopaths who are never overwhelmed by a conscience).
Yes, John Roberts is rotten to the core. But what are Democrats going to do about it if and when they come back into power? I have little hope when the top contender vying for the most powerful position in the world is wholly against a billionaire tax. If this is what democrats have to offer, we are doomed in perpetuity. I'm not feeling optimistic about what comes after Trump.
We need to do more than reconfigure the Supreme Court. We need to hold the corrupt among them accountable. They're not under the illusion of presidential immunity. Can't be put in with the general prison population? Never mind. I think there might be an opening for a little sunny room with a view of the Florida Everglades.
Yes! We really need to extricate and hold accountable the Gang of Six Rubber Stamp Committee. While we're at it, it's way past time to give a good hard look at the first amendment "absolutism" that's enabled the reichwing propaganda machine to thrive and metastasize.
Excellent analysis of the infamous final opinion of the 2024 term (and its foreseeable but disregarded consequences) authored by perhaps the worst Chief Justice in American history.

This is Roberts' legacy. History will not be kind to him.
In these dire times brilliant writing like Lisa's will help us get through.
It's got to stop somewhere - and soon, while we still have a country.

They've been playing this trick on us for decades.

Justice Roberts is on the List. Just so you know.
Epstein wasn't discerning with whom he entertained

I could not agree more. I am devastated by what John Roberts has done to this country.
Does Robert’s think the terms firm and unshaken will apply when ice agents open fire on state national guard troops?
