Once again Lisa, I’m so impressed with your writing! 👏👏 Thank you for explaining the genesis of Trumps obsession with Greenland - I didn’t know about this Ron Lauder guy & his role in it. We knew how damaging the Citizens United decision was to American Democracy, but this article illustrates beautifully how the tentacles of billionaire wealth in politics screws the world in so many different ways . . . 😢
I am somewhat calm because you end with; We can fix this. We must. But hourly news and reports of deranged delusional felon 47 performing on the world stage AND MAGA SCOTUS members so corrupted by MAGA billionaires. I hope you are right! You have to be...
This is perhaps the most damning condemnation of the Citizens United decision I have ever seen. It should be clear by now that, even if money is "speech" it does far more to corrupt than inform (in fact it can more to disinform, and it can do far more to drown out the truth), it does not deserve protection of the First Amendment.
The old adage that the answer to bad speech is more speech just doesn't hold water in today's technological "information" environment.
What a fabulous piece of expository journalism, Lisa Graves! You have connected the dots beautifully of the corrupt members of the Roberts court (and their wives), the Lauder heir & Trump benefactor, the corrupt influence of the 2010 Citizens United decision on US elections, as well as the past and current obsession of Lauder & Trump on possessing Greenland for rare earth minerals.
National security experts have long-debunked the necessity of building the "golden dome" in Greenland. Therefore, when Trump rambled on about the "Golden Dome" at Davos, Switzerland, I had already surmised that the Golden Dome in which Trump was referring was publicly-uttered CODE for GRIFT in the form of his covet of rare earth minerals.
I have never been a fan of the Estee Lauder cosmetic brand. I hope other women boycott the company. More importantly, "We the People" need to rebuild the guardrails against public corruption and foreign "policy" misadventures that are simply excuses to feed to insatiable appetites of billionaire pirates in the name of national security.
Thank you for showing us exactly how Citizens United is, in my feeble wording, so bad for us, we the people. I’m sharing this so others can see your connection of the dots.
